Identified Man

Tree Yochanan (Hönlin), Schoolteacher is mentioned 15 times between 1632 and 1676. His designation in the Stühlingen family tree is 'Y1'.

Hönlin, or Henlin was a poor teacher was under protection from 1662 to 1676, first in Horheim, and later in Stühlingen. Originally he had to pay his full protection fee, but later it was reduced because of poverty, and because of the fact that he didn`t engage in any trade [R4634; 07.04.1672]. He can not be associated with a specific Stühlingen family. It is remotely possible that he is identical with the `Henle from Hermmensdorf` who was given asylum in 1632/3 [R2765; 06.25.1632], [R2791; 01.27.1633]. He appears to have been the only resident Jewish school teacher in Stühlingen before Salmele Bloch. .
