After having been expelled from Tiengen in 1683 Samuel moved with his extended family through Stühlingen to Donaueschingen [R1310; 05.11.1683]. Only Isac Schwab and Israel Ulman with their respective families were allowed to remain in Tiengen [R1329; 10.20.1683] . The passage fee, set originally at 20 fl. were subsequently reduced to 3 `Reichstaler`. Meyer Levi in Unterlauchringen paid part of the fee on behalf of the destitute refugees [R1331; 10.31.1683] . But within 27 years Samuel had advanced to court Jew in Donaueschingen, holding both the tobacco and iron trade monopoly [R12; 01.01.1710] , [R13; 01.01.1710]. He had acquired a fine mansion (Schellenberg house) [R7; 01.01.1710]. According to Rosenthal he also served as parnas for the Donaueschingen Jews RR#3:. But after the baptism of his son Leheman [R4570; 01.01.1729] , he was on the protection list only once more [R19; 01.01.1730]. .
